Creating a Strong Online Banking Password

In today’s highly connected environment, a well-designed password is an important tool to protect yourself from fraudulent account access. While Cardinal Bank regularly updates the security parameters for your protection, an important defense against personal account access is a strong (hard-to-guess) password.

Some things to consider when creating a password that is considered “strong” by industry standards:

  • Include a mix of numbers and letters
  • Use both capital and lowercase letters
  • Use at least one “special character” - ! @ # $ % ^ & * _ + - = ( ) [ ] { } | : ; ` , . / ?

To create a strong password that is easy to remember, but hard to guess, substitute a “special character” for a letter or number.  For example, if you are a cat lover, ILoveCats could become 1LoveC@t$. Or, think about your favorite TV show, movie or sports team. If you are a fan of The Washington Capitals, and your favorite player wears number 8 : GoCaps8 could become GoC@ps8!.
