Internet Security has received increased media attention over the last several months, as phishing scams and cyber-activity have become more sophisticated.  It is increasingly important that everyone be aware of basic Internet security practices. 


Should you unwittingly download a virus or malware on to an unprotected PC, that computer could provide access to your financial accounts.  This type of virus can obtain user names, passwords, and even initiate what seem to be legitimate transactions.

Security Tips

Here are some steps you can take to ensure that your environment is as secure as possible:

  • Confirm  that you are using up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software.  There are many commercially available products that perform automatic updates as new viruses and malware are identified.
  • Ensure your Online Banking User ID and Password are strong.
  • Never share your Online Banking login credentials.
  • Monitor your accounts regulary.
  • Email  phishing scams can be formatted to appear to come from a known or trustworthy source.  Before you click on a link or reply to an email, confirm that the actual email address ( matches the name of the Sender. 


  • Cardinal Bank would never initiate a request for account information via phone or email.
  • Cardinal Bank  would never send an access code via email without the customer initiating the request.
  • For Cash  Management Online clients, Cardinal Bank would never request a token authorization code before a transaction has been initiated.  Token authorization codes are used only at approval.
